The Hotel Roanoke was built in 1882 by the Norfolk and Western Railroad. When it was originally built, it had 34 rooms, which had grown to 384 by 1989. A conference center was added in 1995, and the same year it was listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register. The following year, 1996, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

TJ has visited this hotel on several occasions, and has enjoyed every visit. It is an especially nice place to visit around Christmas, when the lobby and hotel is decorated for the holidays. It is conveniently located to downtown shopping and dining, including the Market and Center in the Square. Be sure to consider a stay at this hotel for your next visit to Roanoke.
